Gosh Leaves Comfort Zone

So today is the last day at home for a while as we leave tomorrow to Asheville,  North Carolina, then Atlanta, Georgia, then onto Alachua, Florida and the Gulf Coast of Florida.

Missing Krsna, Missing Ourself

Yesterday we were speaking on our own experiences of the process of self-realization. To many, self-realization is supposed to be an all-bliss, all the time hoedown-go and check your local chain bookstore in the “new age” section if you don’t believe …

How Santa Claus Killed Christmas

Christmas used to be about the birth of Jesus, now it has devolved into a pagan holiday of orgiastic consumerism. One tool used by the hedonists to achieve this was Santa Claus.
Santa Claus is alledgedly based on Saint Nick, but how far he has strayed. Here is who Saint Nick really was:

“Krishna Returning With The Herd” by Sant Surdas

Mohan comes herding the cows,
crown of peacock feathers on his head,
garland of forest flowers on his chest,
in his hand a wooden staff,
his body wrapped in cow-dust.
A band around his waist
and from his feet the sound of anklets
there amidst his cow-boy friends
Shyam comes. His yellow garments standing out
like lightning amidst the clouds.

VeganforKrsna

Back in the late 70s before meeting the devotees I had adopted a vegan diet out of ethical considerations. It just seemed like the right thing to do if one was serious about the treatment of animals. I had also recently spent some time working on a farm where I was appalled at what I saw. In London I lived with several families of vegans and worked in their vegan cafe. The food was great! It was inspired by its own type of bhakti.

Metaphor, Metaphor! Wherefore Art Thou, Metaphor?

By Christopher H. Ramey, Ph.D.
Historically, metaphors and figurative language have been ignored as a serious topic of study in psychology and philosophy, exiled to the land of rhetoricians or literary analysts. In fact, even in those realms (normally housed in a different part of a college campus than where the ‘scientists’ are) so-called ‘proper’ […]
